Three men were jailed for a total of 34 years at Canterbury Crown Court today after being found guilty of smuggling 3.98kgs of powder containing cocaine into the UK through the UK controlled zone in Coquelles, France. The seized drugs had an estimated street value of £542,000.00 and were found to contain 2.95kgs of 100% pure cocaine.

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) officers have seized 2,000 bottles of wine from a commercial premises south of Newry today. The action comes as part of the department's involvement in a E1m, EU-wide excise duty and VAT fraud investigation by the Republic of Ireland's Revenue Commissioners.

Sotiris Andreas (50) and Pavlos Andronicou (61) were today sentenced at Canterbury Crown Court after being found guilty of importing cocaine into the UK. The 20 kilo concealment, of which 14.4 kilos were 100 per cent pure, was detected by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) Officers at the Port of Dover. The haul has an estimated street-value of £800,000. This value would have increased significantly when 'cut' by drug dealers.

The owners of a Sheffield butcher's shop have been ordered to pay over £11,000 to two former employees after they failed to pay the National Minimum Wage. They are the first employers in Yorkshire to face criminal prosecution for National Minimum Wage offences including being the first employers in the country to face criminal prosecution for deliberately not paying the National Minimum Wage.

Convicted drug smuggler Brian Brendon Wright was today ordered to pay a confiscation order of £2,311,371 following a hearing at Woolwich Crown Court. Wright, 61, who headed an international drugs smuggling gang, was jailed for 30 years in April 2007 having been found guilty of conspiracy to evade prohibition on the importation of a controlled drug and the conspiracy to supply drugs. His Honour Judge Peter Moss today told Wright that he would have to serve a consecutive 10 years default sentence if the money was not paid in 12 months.
